The Maldives Police Service has announced names of two officers who have been appointed to newly created positions.
The Commissioner of Police, Hussain Waheed, appointed Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shifaan as his Official Spokesperson, while he appointed Station Inspector Ismail Ali as Information Officer.
Shifaan has served as the Head of Drug Department of the police.
The position of Information Officer was created in fulfillment of a statutory requirement, as the Right to Information Act which came to effect on the 12th of July this year obliges every state institution to have an Information Officer to whom requests for information can be addressed.
Before Ismail Ali was appointed as Information Officer, that position was fulfilled by Chief Inspector of Police Hassan Haneef.
The said officers would continue in their old positions as well, in addition to the new responsibilities assigned to them.
