President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has met India’s Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi and Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan.
While meeting PM Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the 18th SAARC Summit, on Wednesday in Kathmandu, President Yameen expressed his gratitude to the Indian Government for their continued support and assistance to the Maldives.
PM Modi has asserted that India would continue supporting the Maldives in areas that are prioritized by the Maldivian Government.
According to President’s Office, President Yameen and PM Modi emphasized the long-standing ties between the neighboring countries and re-affirmed their commitment to further strengthening relations between Maldives and India.
President’s Office said that President Yameen and PM Modi discussed about the opportunities to increase Indian assistance towards the health sector of Maldives.
President Yameen and PM Nawaz Sharif discussed on the long standing fraternal relations between the two countries and explored avenues to further expand the close favorable relations between the Maldives and Pakistan, especially in areas of trade, commerce, and human resources in the meeting held on Wednesday.
They also exchanged views on making SAARC a more powerful regional bloc.
Noting the historical relations between the two countries, President Yameen expressed his gratitude to PM Sharif for Pakistan’s continued support and assistance to the Maldives in the meeting.
