Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Shiham has said that development of every nation of the world depends on education and nurturing of young children.
In the ceremony held on Wednesday to share the results of medical screening conducted for students of grade one throughout the country in 2014, Minister of Education said that based on education and nurturing of children, the present government’s promise is “no child left behind” policy. Minister added that as opportunities for education and training are facilitated in schools, students have to be given priority in implementing educational policies.
Dr. Aishath Shiham said that every effort of government and society must be made in a way that can model good values to students.
Minister highlighted on the importance of students to be healthy in creating a skillful community with no child left behind.
Speaking in the ceremony on Wednesday, Colonel Retired Mohamed Nazim, Defense Minister who is also the acting Minister of Health said that it is significant to establish a mechanism to include physical activities during teaching and that, training for teachers in that regard has to be provided.
According to some of the results of Medical Screening of students of Grade one in 2014, 27 percent of the students were overweight while 34 percent were underweight and 16.75 percent students had problems related to eyes.
