The President’s Office has today opened applications for membership of the Elections Commission, as the terms of office for two of the Commission members are to end soon.
Both Mohamed Farooq and Ali Mohamed Manik would see their terms as Elections Commission members expire on the 24th of November.
An announcement released by the President’s Office last Thursday said that application deadline would be the 26th of November.
A new member for the Commission was appointed today as well. Amjad Mustafa, Alivaage, G.A. Maamendhoo, was appointed as EC member after the People’s Majlis approved his name last Wednesday.
In March this year, Ismail Habeeb was appointed to the Commission, after former member Ibrahim “Ogaru” Waheed resigned.
Following a Supreme Court decision that former members of EC Fuad Tawfeeq and Ahmed Fayaaz were out due to unconstitutional acts as members, the President sent four names to the Majlis, and those names are still to be considered and decided on by the Majlis.
