The National Drug Agency (NDA) has said that as required in the Drugs Act, agreements have been made with three foreign rehabilitation centres to facilitate treatment for Maldivians.
At a press conference today, NDA Board Member Ali Shahid Mohamed said that two of these centres are in Chennai, while the other one is in Bangalore in India.
He said that these centres offer rehabilitation services that meet the agency’s standards.
“We have commenced the process today. People seeking rehabilitation can place their requests at NDA from today onwards,” said Shahid.
He added that the treatments must be funded by the patients, and that NDA would facilitate opportunities for people seeking rehabilitation voluntarily as well as for people who are required to do so following court orders.
