Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) has signed an agreements to install ice plants in six islands of the country in order to provide ice required for fishermen easily.
In a ceremony held to sign the agreements to install ice plants in the islands, Adlee Ismail, CEO of MIFCO signed the agreements on behalf of MIFCO while council members signed the agreements from islands.
Ice plants were to be installed in Raa Alifushi, Baa Thulhaadhoo, Thaa Hirilandhoo, Gaafu Alifu Dhevvadhoo, Gaafu Alifu Dhaandhoo and Noonu Lhohi. According to the agreements, ice plants of the capacity of 25 Metric Tons would be installed in these six islands.
Sharing information with media after signing the agreements, Adlee said that MIFCO’s goal was to establish a convenient arrangement for providing ice required for the fishermen.
“Our main target is to deliver fresh fishes caught from pole and line to people, without having the fishermen to go to the ports of Kooddoo, Thinadhoo, Addu or Felivaru,” said the CEO of MIFCO.
Speaking in the ceremony, Fisheries Minister Dr. Mohamed Shainee said that Ministry was putting a lot of effort into improving fisheries industry and providing opportunities for marketing and for that reason it was important to maintain the quality of fishes.
Minister said that this project can improve the quality of fishes thereby creating more job opportunities.
The project worth MVR 17 million has been financed through loan and MIFCO said that installation of ice plants would be completed within the first quarter of 2015.
