Confident that India-Maldives relationship will continue to strengthen, says Indian President

President of India Pranab Mukherjee has said that he was confident that the India-Maldives relationship would continue to expand and strengthen in the coming years, to the mutual benefit of the people of both countries.

This came in a message from Mukherjee to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, to extend greetings to the government and the people of the Maldives on the occasion of the Republic Day of the Maldives.

In the message, dated 10 November 2014 and issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Indian President said, “On behalf of the Government and the people of India and on my own behalf, I am extremely happy to convey to Your Excellency and to the people of the Republic of Maldives, warm felicitations and good wishes on the occasion of your Republic Day.

“Our two countries enjoy close and cordial relations based on mutual trust and cooperation. As India and Maldives celebrate the 50th year of the establishment of our diplomatic relations commencing November 2014, I am confident that our relationship will continue to expand and strengthen further in the coming years to the mutual benefit of our peoples”.
