Budget Committee decides to summon only absolutely necessary independent institutions

Budget Committee has decided to summon the most needed independent authorities to that committee during evaluation of projected budget for the year 2015.

In the meeting held on Sunday, members discussed the issue of summoning independent authorities to the budget evaluation committee and it has been decided to present the report to parliament floor by completing budget evaluation before 27 November 2014.

Members in the committee proposed two means to obtain opinions from Independent Authorities. In that regard, Galolhu Uthuru constituency MP, Eva Abdulla recommended to summon the most needed authorities to the committee and Gan constituency MP Fayyaz Ismail recommended to get opinions from authorities in written form rather than summoning them to the committee.

Between those two recommendations, majority of the members in the committee voted the recommendation of summoning the most needed Independent Authority to the committee.

Chair of the committee Nihan Hussein Manik said that Finance Minister Abdulla Jihad would participate in committee meetings.

Leader of Jumhooree Partee (JP) MP Gasim Ibrahim has criticized the budget of MVR 24.3 billion projected by the government in Sunday’s meeting. He said that the projected budget for the year 2015 has to be evaluated very well as there is discrimination in allocation of budget.
