The parliament has requested the advice of Auditor General Niyaz Ibrahim and Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) Dr Azeema Adam regarding the Projected State Budget for 2015.
The parliament’s Budget Committee decided to make this request, which was proposed by Chairperson of the Budget Committee Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik, at its first meeting.
Representatives of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) suggested summoning the Auditor General and the MMA Governor to the committee, instead of requesting their counsel in writing.
Nihan replied that in the past years, the parliament had requested their professional advice in writing, and summoned them to the committee later.
He assured that they would be summoned during the budget assessment stage.
The total amount of the Projected State Budget for 2015 is MVR 24,341,906,072. The total estimated government income and free financial aid for 2015 is MVR 21.5 billion. This is made up of MVR 13 billion as tax revenue, MVR 6.8 billion as non-tax revenue, and MVR 1.7 billion as free financial aid.
