Russia and the Maldives have signed an agreement regarding cooperation in criminal matters.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony at Traders Hotel today, by visiting Prosecutor General of Russia Yury Chaika, and Prosecutor General of Maldives Muhthaz Muhsin.
The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Prosecutor General of Russia Alexander Zvyagintsev, Ambassador of Russia to the Maldives Alexander Karchava, Deputy Prosecutor General of Maldives Mahmood Saleem, Attorney General of Maldives Mohamed Anil, and Deputy Commissioner of Maldives Police Service Ahmed Saudi.
Details of the agreement were not available at the time of publication.
Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika arrived in the Maldives last night on the invitation of Maldivian Prosecutor General Muhthaz Muhsin.
Prosecutor General Muhthaz Muhsin told Sun Online last night that the purpose of this visit was to strengthen relations between the two countries in terms of prosecution.
He said that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would be sign in this regard on Thursday, which would facilitate training for Maldivian prosecutors in Russia, and allow Russian prosecutors to work in Maldives.
Muhthaz said that this was arranged by former Prosecutor General Ahmed Muizzu, during his tenure.
Yury Chaika is also the Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister of Russia.
