Male’ City council said that they did not get support from police when requested to stop removal of trees that were replanted on Majeedee Magu by Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC).

In a news conference held at Male’ city council hall regarding this issue, Mayor of Male’ city council, Mohamed Shihab said that because areca nut trees on Majeedee Magu were cut down by vandals last month, efforts to plant new trees began on Wednesday afternoon.

However, Mayor said that MRDC removed those trees saying that it was an order from Housing Ministry and that police stationed near City Council at that moment was requested to to stop them. However, Shihab said that police have not done anything against removal of trees.

Mayor Shihab said that they have decided to report this case to Police Integrity Commission. Apart from this Mayor added that they have also decided to file the case to Local Government Authority and Human Rights Commission.
