Trees replanted on Majeedee Magu by Male’ City Council, after some trees were cut down by vandals last month, have been removed by Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC).
Male’ Mayor Mohamed Shihab said that the council began efforts to plant new trees this afternoon, and that he was not been informed of the trees being removed.
Sun Online has come to know that the trees were removed by staff of MRDC, who were foreigners.
The case is under investigation by the police.
Police could not however be contacted for a comment at the time of publication.
Police have also started investigating the cutting down of the trees on Majeedee Magu last month.
The Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has notified City Council to obtain permission prior to planting trees, as some types of trees block the drains on the streets of Male’.
