Nihan elected Chairperson, Mauroof Deputy Chairperson of Budget Committee

Leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Parliamentary Group Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has been elected as the Chairperson, and Deputy Leader of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) Ali Mauroof has been elected as the Deputy Chairperson of the ad hoc committee formed to assess the Projected State Budget for 2015.

Vilimale’ MP Nihan was elected as Budget Committee Chairperson unanimously by the 21 members present at today’s meeting; while Kendhikulhudhoo MP Mauroof was elected as Budget Committee Deputy Chairperson with 15 votes in favour.

The Budget Committee is formed by merging the Public Accounts Committee and the Economic Affairs Committee, and consists of 24 MPs.

The committee is made up of ten PPM members, eight Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) members, three Jumhooree Party (JP) members, and three MDA members.
