President announces five islands to be developed as resorts in Haa Dhaalu

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom announced five islands to be developed as resorts in Haa Dhaalu atoll.

Addressing the people in Kulhudhuffushi, the capital island of Haa Dhaalu atoll, where there is no resort at the moment, president Yameen announced the names of five islands to be developed as resorts. Those five islands were Dhipparufushi, Vaikarumuraadhoo, Kanamana, Kudafaru and Keylakunu.

President Yameen said that first islands to be developed as resorts in his government have been chosen and announced from Haa Dhaalu atoll.

People of Haa Dhaalu have launched and conducted campaigns via social networks and at atoll level, demanding for resorts in their atoll before.

While president Yameen has announced government's decision regarding leasing five islands for resorts from Haa Dhaalu, the projected 2015 state budget sent to the parliament included leasing ten islands to develop into resorts in order to increase government revenue.

Highlighting the promise made during his presidential campaign, president Yameen said that his promise was to establish an airport at Kulhudhuffushi.

President Yameen gave assurance to the people of Kulhudhuffushi regarding establishment of airport.
