Authorities have found large quantities of mobile phones and drugs that have been smuggled into Male Prison, Maafushi Prison, and Asseyri Prison, managed by Maldives Correctional Service.
Superintendent of Prisons of Maldives Correctional Service Mohamed Asif said at a press conference today, that the prisons were searched over the past three weeks during operations aimed at improving security.
Asif said that 59 mobile phones, 201 packets containing substances believed to be drugs, large quantities of SIM cards, phone batteries, and phone chargers were seized during these operations.
The largest quantity of smuggled items were found in Maafushi Prison, including 52 mobile phones, 200 packets containing substances believed to be drugs, 35 phone batteries, 23 phone chargers, and 33 SIM cards, said Asim.
“Three mobile phones, two chargers, two phone batteries, and one SIM card were found in Male’ Prison, while four mobiles phones, three chargers, and one SIM card were found in Asseyri Prison,” said Asim.
