Minister: Bridge survey will be completed earlier than scheduled

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that the first phase of the Male’-Hulhule’ bridge project would be completed earlier than the scheduled date.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Dr Muizzu said that he was confident, and the Chinese Embassy had also assured, that the survey, the feasibility study, and the design study being conducted by the Chinese survey team would be completed very soon.

He said that all administrative work related to the feasibility report would be completed before the team departs from the Maldives.

The Chinese survey team, made up of eight experts, arrived in the Maldives on Friday. Deputy Ambassador of China to the Maldives Liu Jiyang said earlier that the team will complete the survey in forty days.

Dr Muizzu said that the team has met with officials from the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure, the Environment Protection Agency, the Maldives Meteorological Service, the Coast Guard, and other relevant government institutions.

The Chinese government has said that a decision on providing financial support to the project, which will go through five stages, would be made after the survey.
