Intoxicated, sleeping man arrested at Bandaara Mosque

The police have arrested a man who was sleeping in an intoxicated state at Bandaara Mosque in Male’.

The police spokesperson said that the suspect, a 22-year-old man, was arrested at 9:20 a.m. today, when Drug Operation Unit officers went to Bandaara Mosque after receiving information from a member of the public and found the man sleeping at the mosque resting his head on a book rest.

He said that the suspect had been stopped and questioned on 26 occasions, taken to the police station 18 times, and arrested ten times.

Also, eight cases have been sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office against him, and he has been convicted and sentenced in relation to seven theft and drug-related cases, said the police.
