Maldivian students in Lanka shall sit SSC exams next year: High Commission

Those who attend Islam, Qur’an and Divehi language classes conducted for Maldivian students studying in Sri Lanka would sit the Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SCE) next year, reported the Maldivian High Commission in Sri Lanka.

Speaking to Sun Online and NBC at Colombo, Zahiya Zareer, the Maldivian High Commissioner for Sri Lanka, said that classes in Divehi, Islam and Qur’an for secondary level students were being conducted at Sosun Villa, former venue of the High Commission, for Maldivian students. She also said that the first batch would partake in the next round of SCE, a local examination which is a mandatory for Maldivian secondary level students upon completion of their studies.

“We have made all the necessary arrangements in consultation with the Ministry of Education”, said Zahiya.

According to the High Commission, around 400 students are currently tutored in the classes which began in June this year. Also, parents have greatly appreciated the program and supported it enthusiastically, says the High Commission.

Abdullah Rasheed Adam, who is currently in-charge of Sosun Villa said that about 14 students will sit the first round of exams next year.

Sosun Villa, former office of the Maldivian High Commission in Colombo, is now run under the High Commission as ‘Maldives Educational and Cultural Center’, a social and cultural center for Maldivians living in Sri Lanka.

The center provides services of a Youth Centre, sports and fitness facilities.
