Evidence has been presented against 19 suspects involved in unrest in Mukurimagu of Laamu Gan in 2010.
The state presented evidence against the 19 suspects regarding terrorism charges today, and the suspects have also presented evidence in their defence.
State lawyer said that government has provided evidence to prove the charges against the suspects.
According to the charges filed by the government, the group created unrest in Laamu Gan by issuing threats, inciting fear in the community, going to Mukurimagu in a group carrying weapons, vandalizing places of Mukurimagu and burning some places on 16 April 2010 afternoon.
The charges were denied by all suspects. Presenting evidence in defence, two of them said that they were not at the island at time of the incident. One of them said that he was in Male’ and another one said that he was in a Safari at Hulhumale’ area that day, while some other said that he was on his duty at Utilities Company at the time of the incident.
If the suspects are found guilty, they will be imprisoned for duration between 10 to 15 years.
The case was filed to Criminal Court on 24 October 2010.
