Court to summon police officer who prepared forensic report in Nizar murder investigation

The Juvenile Court has decided to summon the police officer who compiled the forensic report for the investigation of the murder of Ahmed Nizar, of Woodland, Thundi, Laamu Gan.

Spokesperson for the Juvenile Court said that this was decided at a hearing held today, and that the police officer will be asked to appear in court for the next hearing.

He further said that at today’s hearing, the lawyer representing the defendant spoke about the documentary evidence presented in court.

The state has presented details of Nizar’s heirs, as requested by the judge. The court also requested the state today, to find out if the doctor who examined Nizar's body is in the country.

The Juvenile Court spokesperson said that the next hearing has been scheduled for 26 October.

Nizar was found dead around 2:23 a.m. on 15 July 2013 on Sinaaee Magu in Laamu Gan. Wooden planks and iron rods used to attack Nizar were found near his body by the police.

The suspect, a minor, has been charged under Article 6 (a), with reference to Article 2 (a) of the Terrorism Prevention Act.

Article 2 (a) of the Terrorism Prevention Act states that the act of killing or causing bodily harm or carrying out such actions with the intention of creating fear or terror or with a political motive, shall be construed as acts of terrorism.

Article 6 (a) states that anyone found guilty of an act of terrorism resulting in the loss of a life shall be sentenced to death or life imprisonment or banishment, and the same penalty shall apply to those found guilty of complicity in the crime.
