Heavy rain causes power outage in Male

Heavy rain was experienced in Male’ last night, causing flooding and power outages in several parts of the island.

Power went out at around 3:00 a.m. in a major part of the city. On Lonuziyaaraiy Magu in Henveyru, shops remain closed this morning as power has still not been restored.

Assistant Director of State Electric Company (STELCO) Abdulla Nazir said that the power outage was caused by flooding.

“Electricity cables were damaged as a result of the heavy rain last night, which caused power outages in many parts of the island. Some areas still remain without power.”

He assured that efforts are ongoing to solve the problem, and power will be restored within the hour in all areas.

Heavy rain and flooding have also caused difficulties for motorcycles and pedestrians on the streets of Male’.
