HDC announces to remove vessels from Hulhumale

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) publicised an announcement, asking for removal and clearance of Hulhumale’ western harbor area for upcoming reclamation project of Hulhumale’ phase two.

The announcement stated that the vessels docked at the region specified for travelling of vessels which carry machineries and materials needed to start reclamation of Hulhumale' phase two, between Farukolhufushi and Hulhumale’, need to be cleared before 28 October 2014.

Apart from this, it was stated in the announcement that no vessel is allowed to travel in that region without permission.

Hassan Ziyath, Chairman of HDC said to Sun Online Wednesday that on-site work of Hulhumale’ reclamation phase two would be started by mid November 2014, and they could be able to finish this phase within six months.

The project of reclamation of Hulhumale' phase two worth $50 million (MVR 771 million) has been assigned to Dredging International, a Belgian company. According to HDC, upcoming reclamation project will facilitate a population of about 100,000 people and 240 hectares of land would be reclaimed from Hulhumale’ towards Farukolhufushi.
