Exports increase by 17 percent for September 2014

Maldives Customs said that export of Maldives has been increased by 17 percent and import by 16 percent in September this year when compared with September last year.

Customs said that Maldives exported goods worth MVR 208.8 million during September last year, compared with MVR 244.7 million in September this year.

Customs said that increase in export to Thailand, which is the largest export market of Maldives, by 43 percent was the main reason for export increase in September this year.

Apart from this, Customs said that goods exported to France, UK and the US have also been increased by 80 percent during September 2014 when compared with September 2013.

Maldives has spent most for fuel among the imported items. Fuel worth MVR 742.1 million was imported to Maldives, while electronic items and food and beverage worth MVR 472.4 million and MVR 458.1 million respectively were imported to Maldives.
