Three police officers testify against former MP Hamid

Three police officers have testified in court today, and said that former Henveyru South MP Hamid Abdul Gafoor refused a request by the police to provide a urine sample in Hondaidhoo on 16 November 2012.

Responding to questions posed by the state prosecutor and the defence lawyer, the officers said that Hamid refused to look at a form presented by the police, requesting a urine sample.

The three police officers who testified today were the officer who requested the urine sample, and two officers who were present at the scene when this request was made.

Responding to a question posed by Hamid’s lawyer, Hamid's brother and former Deputy Prosecutor General, Hussain Shameem, all three police officers agreed that the request was made after permission was obtained from Sub Inspector of Police Ibrahim Mohamed.

Shameem requested that the Investigation Officer for this case and the Officer who gave permission to order a urine sample be summoned to court; to which Judge Abdulla Mohamed responded that the decision whether to summon them to court, will be made later.

The Criminal Court has sentenced former Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir and General Manager of Haa Alifu Alidhoo Resort Jadulla Jameel to one year in prison, for refusing to provide urine samples when requested by police in Hondaidhoo.

Jabir was pardoned by the President and released from prison after six months.
