In Maldives Eid al-Adha is marked very colourfully every year. This is known as the feast of the sacrifice. as all the other years, the holy festival began with eid prayer. In Male’ and in many other islands eid prayer was performed in huge congregation on Saturday 4th October 2014.
In Male, after the eid prayer was one of the most important thing of this holy festival. It is sacrificing of goats, which is known as “Ul-Hiyaa”. In Male’ and Hulhumale’ , sacrificing took place at carnival grounds and Barbeque area respectively.
In many islands and in Hulhumale, breakfast was arranged to people on the roads, and everyone was welcomed for the breakfast.
A special lunch with variety of local foods served during noon. This lunch was served at a central place in most of the islands. All the guest visitors and the residents of the islands had lunch together.
Fun and activities to celebrate eid started in most of the islands after breakfast. Journalists of Sun covered eid celebrations in many islands.
Hussein Hassan from Dh.Hulhudheli:
Females of Dh.Hulhudheli invited and gave a warm welcome to “Harubee Boduberu Group” to their island to perform in the stage. Some other traditional events planned for eid are boduberu, Ban’diyaa and Dha’di jehun.
Aishath Ashfa from Th.Kan’doodhoo:
Many events conducted in Th.Kan’doodhoo. Some of the events include Bodumas, Vaadhemun and a stage show.
Murshid AbdulHakeem from Hulhumale’:
After the eid prayer, goats were sacrificed at Barbeque area and breakfast organized by the people living in the flats was arranged in the roads near by.
Ahmed Sharuwan from Aa Thoddu:
After the eid prayer, people made-up with their costumes and got ready for “Maali Hin’gun” (cultural parade). This parade was organized as a competition. Three groups participated in this competition.
Ismail Shafeeu from K.Thulusdhoo:
Thulusdhoo females organized a “Maali” parade for the afternoon and a music show for the evening.
Ahmed Azif from Male:
Schools of Male’ had a parade in the afternoon in the main roads of the capital city of Maldives.
Ahmed Mujthaba from Male (Sultan Park):
“Kudakudhinge Haveeru” organized by the president Yamin’s campaign office was held at sultan park in the afternoon. Popular musician Sameeu and his colleagues performed a stage show, while other events were carried out at different areas of the park.
Musthafa Mohamed Rasheed from Colombo:
Maldivians residing in Srilanka organized an event for children in the afternoon. Lots of Maldivian children with their parents participated in this event.
Minnu from Hulhumale’
Traditional events in the name of “Eid Ufaa” was carried out in Hulhumale’. These events were organized by the residents of Hulhumale’. “Bodumas Race” is planned for the following night.
Apart from these events, all the islands across the country are colorfully celebrating the holy feast of Muslims; Eid Al Adha, locally known as “Bodu Eid”. These celebrations will last for a minimum of three days in almost all the islands.
