The government of Kuwait has, as promised, donated MVR 6 million for the construction of a building for the Waqf Fund, established by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs of the Maldives.
Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed informed that the donation by Kuwait has been deposited to the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
The ten-storey building by the name of “Dharul Imaan”, is to be constructed to generate income for the Waqf Fund. This building is to be constructed on the vacant plot between Maafannu Madharusa and Raaveriya Restaurant. This work has been assigned to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
At the ceremony held to sign the agreement for this project with MTCC, Dr Shaheem said that “Dharul Imaan” will be constructed according to modern standards.
The minister said that construction is to be completed within the next two years, and that the revenue generated from leasing the building will be deposited to the Waqf Fund.
The ministry’s Mosque Fund will receive over MVR 3 million a year from this building, while the cost of the project to construct the Waqf building is MVR 23 million, said Dr Shaheem.
