Man sentenced to three years in prison for using drugs

The Criminal Court has sentenced Ahmed Ameen, of Fenfiyaazuge, Thaa Thimarafushi, to three years in prison for using drugs.

The court said that even though Ameen denied the charges filed against him by the State, he tested positive for cannabis during the investigation.

The court said that moreover, investigation reports showed that a joint containing 0.5136 gram cannabis was found in his pocket.

According to the Drugs Act, cases against persons who confess to using drugs should be filed to Drug Court, to facilitate rehabilitation.
