The hearing scheduled for today at the Juvenile Court against the minor charged with the murder of Ahmed Nizar, has been cancelled.
The spokesperson for the Juvenile Court said that the hearing was cancelled because it was not possible to produce the defendant, who is in police custody, in court today.
The next hearing has been scheduled for 14 September, during which the State will call its witnesses to the witness stand, said the spokesperson.
Ahmed Nizar, of Woodland, Thundi, Laamu Gan, was found dead at 2:23 a.m. on 15 July 2013 on Sinaaee Magu in Laamu Gan. Wooden planks and iron rods used to attack Nizar were found near his body by the police.
The State has claimed that Nizar was attacked, by the suspect and his group, with these objects while he was traveling on his motorcycle on Sinaaee Magu that night.
The suspect has been charged under Article 6 (a), with reference to Article 2 (a) of the Terrorism Prevention Act.
Article 2 (a) of the Terrorism Prevention Act states that the act of killing or causing bodily harm or carrying out such actions with the intention of creating fear or terror or with a political motive, shall be construed as acts of terrorism.
Article 6 (a) states that anyone found guilty of an act of terrorism resulting in the loss of a life shall be sentenced to death or life imprisonment or banishment, and the same penalty shall apply to those found guilty of complicity in the crime.
