President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has established a Governing Board for Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Vilimale’ Hospital, and Hulhumale’ Hospital.

This was announced by Acting Minister of Health, Minister of Defence Mohamed Nazim at a press conference at the Ministry of Health this afternoon.

Nazim said that the five members appointed to the board are Brigadier General (Retired) Farhath Shaheer, former Assistant Regional Director of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Dr Abdul Sattar Yoosuf, Dr Abdul Azeez, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Economic Development Yoosuf Riza, and Aishath Saadh from the Department of National Planning.

Other appointments made to senior posts in the health sector include the appointment of Farhath Shaheer as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IGMH, Dr Abdulla Waheed as the Director General of Medical Service at IGMH, and Maimoona Saeed as the Director General of Nursing Service at IGMH.

Nazim said that they will begin their duties on Sunday.

“The board would be responsible for strengthening the management and improving the services of these three hospitals. Health Ministry’s role, from now on, would be to regulate hospitals. The ministry would not deal with doctors. The hospitals will be managed by the CEO, under the Governing Board,” said Nazim.
