Jumhooree Party (JP) has promised to extend cooperation and assistance through the parliament for the efforts to find Minivan News journalist Ahmed Rilwan, who is believed to have been missing since 8 August.
This was announced during a meeting between JP and family members of Rilwan at Maafannu Kunooz today.
Spokesperson for JP Parliamentary Group Hussain Shahudhy said that the meeting was arranged following a request by Rilwan’s mother yesterday.
At the meeting, JP Leader Gasim Ibrahim expressed deep concern over Rilwan’s disappearance, and assured the family that the party will cooperate with the search efforts in every way possible as allowed by country’s laws.
JP members present at the meeting also said that they will cooperate with the efforts of the parliament’s 241 sub-committee, which is also investigating Rilwan’s disappearance.
Rilwan was reported missing to the police by his family on 13 August. As part of their search efforts, the police have searched buildings and vehicles in Male’ and Hulhumale’. Joint search efforts with Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) are also ongoing.
