Suspects arrested over attack on Alhan Fahmy released

The Criminal Court has ordered the release of the individuals arrested on suspicion of stabbing former Feydhoo MP Alhan Fahmy.

The court earlier issued an order to hold them in custody until the court proceedings are completed.

Detailing its reason for the release order today, the court said that the case against the two suspects was sent to the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office months ago, but the office has not made any decision regarding pressing charges.

Despite the release, the court has prohibited the suspects from leaving their homes at night.

The case against the suspects, Mohamed Sameeh and Mohamed Naseem, was sent to the PG Office in March 2014.

Alhan was at a local restaurant, Break Water in Artificial Beach, Male’, when he was stabbed in the back with a knife around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, 1 February.

Alhan was promptly transported to a hospital in Sri Lanka for treatment. He has since returned to Male’, but has not fully recovered from his injuries.
