Civil servants receive first year-end bonus

Civil Service Commission has granted civil servants their year-end bonuses for 2013, the first-ever year-end bonuses given out to civil servants in the Maldives.

The bonuses, calculated from the start of January 2013 until the end of December 2013, were awarded along with their monthly salaries at the end of August.

The bonuses were calculated through a strict criteria, which required employees to have maintained an attendance above 80 percent, to have not had an uninformed day of absence and not have been subjected to any administrative reprimand throughout the year, to be eligible for the year-end bonus.

Employees who scored above 95 percent from the evaluation were given a bonus equivalent to the employee’s one-month basic salary, employees who scored between 85 and 95 were given two-third of the employee’s one-month basic salary, and employees who scored between 75 and 84.9 were eligible to one-third of the employee’s one-month basic salary.

Civil Service Commission has assembled a three-member committee to hear grievances regarding the year-end bonuses. Employees are required to file grievances with the committee within a period of one month.

Ministry of Finance and Treasury has granted MVR 40 million to the Civil Service Commission to grant year-end bonuses for last year.
