Three prisoners hurt in fire at Male

Three prisoners have suffered burns in a fire at Male’ Prison.

The Spokesperson at Correctional Service Centre told Sun Online today that the incident took place at around 10:00 p.m. last night, and that one prisoner who suffered more severe burns than others, to his arms and legs, is undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

He said that the two other victims have been released after treatment at the Medical Centre.

“The fire took place due to an electrical short circuit, while some prisoners, who are undergoing rehabilitation, were working,” he explained.
