President to discuss trade during visit to China

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom will hold discussions on trade with the Government of China during his visit to the attend the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, eastern China's Jiangsu Province on 16 August, the President's Office has said.

President Yameen is scheduled to leave to China tonight. His visit is in answer to an official invitation by the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping. President's Office described the invitation as exclusive to "a small number of Presidents from nations around the world." President Yameen will conclude his visit on 18 August.

The highlight of President Yameen’s visit will be his meeting with President Xi Jinping. The two Presidents are scheduled to discuss trade and development projects of mutual interest, the President’s Office Spokesperson has said.

President Yameen is also due to meet with heads of Chinese corporations to discuss investments opportunities in the Maldives.

President Yameen will be accompanied by a delegation of Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials including Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed, Minister of Youth and Sports Maleeh Jamal, and Minister of Tourism Ahmed Adheeb.
