Child attempts suicide by hanging in Thinadhoo

A 9-year old child attempted to kill himself today in G.Dh. Thinadhoo, by hanging from a coconut palm tree in his family home compound, reported sources in Thinadhoo. The child was immediately rescued and is now under intensive medical care at Thinadhoo Regional Hospital.

Police said today that the incident occurred around 11:30 am today, and that the child was recovering. The child attempted to hang himself by the neck using a book belt as a ligature, and an elder brother of his saw him while hanging.

A family friend told Sun that the child was disappointed over sharing a toy with his siblings, and that he got out of the house after a row among them, and that after a while the mother asked one of the siblings to go out and see where he had gone. The child went out to see his brother hanging, and the latter was immediately rescued.
