Immigration stops quotas for agriculture, tailors and barbershops

Department of Immigration and Emigration has stopped issuing quotas to employment agencies to bring expatriate workers for agriculture, tailoring and barbershops, to the Maldives.

Immigration Department said in a statement released today that the hiatus went into effect on 7 August, and the issuing of quotas will resume on 30 October.

The step is part of an effort to reduce the number undocumented workers, and to bring down the influx of expatriate workers who continue to enter the country in large numbers, the department said.

“In addition to solving these issues, the increase in number of job opportunities available for Maldivians is also a priority of the Department of Immigration and Emigration,” read the statement.
