PPM donates MVR 500,000 to Help Gaza fund

Progressive Party of Maldives has donated MVR 500,000 to the ongoing Help Gaza Telethon organized by Maldivian media organizations to raise money for the Muslims suffering under the recent Israeli aggression in Gaza.

PPM President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom handed over the money to the Help Gaza Telethon steering committee at an event at the party office today. The money was raised through activities conducted by the party, PPM said, but the party did not provide details.

Speaking at the event, former president Gayoom assured that PPM will always prioritize Islamic causes, and noted that Maldivians had earlier organized a donation drive in the name of Quddus Fund to aid the people of Palestine.

“Maldivian people continue to provide assistance to the people of Palestine today to alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza. Maldives has also defended Palestine in front of the international community,” said Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

The former president also made a donation of an undisclosed sum today in the name of his wife, former first lady Nasreena Ibrahim, to the Help Gaza fund.

The 33-hour 30-minute Help Gaza Telethon was kicked off at 2:30 p.m. on Friday with over MVR 6 million in donations, and has accumulated MVR 12 million by Saturday morning. The telethon, which carries the hashtag #HelpGazaMv, will continue until midnight.
