Schools have resumed today after breaking for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr holidays this year.
The mid-term break, previously scheduled for 24 August to 28 August, was taken forward to 20 July to 24 July by the Ministry of Education, due to the decision to close schools for Ramadan.
The Ministry has also informed schools to conduct extra classes from 10 August to 28 October to adjust the time lost during Ramadan break. This arrangement was announced as an alternative to holding sessions on weekends.
The 2014 academic year began on 14 January, and the first academic term ended on 5 June. The Ramadan break began for grades 9 and below on 29 June, the first day of the holy month this year.
