Police officer attacked with machete

Two men released under former President Mohamed Nasheed’s ‘second chance’ program were arrested last night for attempting to attack a Policeman using a machete. Police said that they belong to ‘Mas odi group’.

The incident took place near Nalahiya Hotel, when Police caught the two men after they had escaped a checkpoint.

The Policeman was not injured, but the knife cut the vest he had over his uniform.

Attacks on Police at the checkpoints set up under the Road Safety Program by the Polices are on the rise. Offenders are being arrested with their licences suspended and their vehicles towed.
