Maldives Police Service has established a Criminal Investigation Unit in Addu City to speed-up investigations in the city.
Police said that cases investigated in different stations around the area will be brought under the investigation unit. This will allow for better coordination and administration, said Chief Inspector Ahmed Shifan, commander of south police division.
The investigation unit has three sections; a drugs and alcohol section, a family and child protection section, and a general investigation section.
Police also recently established a traffic police unit in Addu City. The city's 14-kilometre causeway link road has seen some of the most dangerous road accidents in the country.
