Thousands of Maldivians rallied on the streets of Male’ on Tuesday to raise their voices against Israeli aggression against the people of Palestine and to call for an end to the air strikes in Gaza.
Government Minister along with senior officials from both the ruling and opposition parties took part in the rally, which began near Social Centre in Majeedhee Magu on Tuesday night.
Protesters carried flags of anti-Israel organizations, placards and banners with anti-Israel slogans, and hundreds of posters with pictures of young people who have died in the recent attacks in Gaza.
Protesters called for an end to the agression and victory of the Palestenian people. They also observed a moment of prayer for the victims in Gaza.
Israel and U.S. flags were burned at the end of the rally. However, organizers of the protest said they had repeatedly asked participants to refrain from such acts.
Tuesday night’s rally was the first street protest to bring together supporters of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
