Irushaadha appointed Information Officer of Parliament

Irushaadha Abdul Sattar, Director of Media at the Parliament has been appointed as Information Officer of the Parliament, the secretariat announced today.

Article 36 of the Right to Information Act, that came into force on Saturday, requires each state institution to appoint an Information Officer.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Sunday established the Information Commissioner’s Office, required under Article 43 (a) of the Right to Information Act.

The President has also proposed former Maavashu MP Abdul Azeez Jamaal Aboobakuru for the post of Information Commissioner for approval by the Parliament. The Committee on Independent Institutions is currently reviewing the nomination.
