The Criminal Court has extended the period of detention for a fourth time, for the woman who recently killed her baby after giving birth.
Police said that the court on Friday gave 15 additional days of detention for the 18-year-old mother, allowing the police to hold her for the investigation at a location determined by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The baby girl was found on 26 May in a bag at a rented apartment in Maafannu Silver Shark in Male’, and doctors at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) said she was already dead when she was brought to the hospital.
Sources have told Sun Online that the mother was identified after she arrived at ADK Hospital with postnatal complications. Her family told doctors that she had flushed the baby in the bathroom after giving birth.
Her family alerted the police after she later said that she had put the baby in a bag.
