STO's shipment of onions, eggs, potatoes to arrive on Sunday

Government’s wholesale and retail company State Trading Organization (STO) has said that a new shipment of onions, eggs and potatoes will arrive in Maldives on Sunday, 13 July.

Goods from the new shipment will be released to the market Tuesday. The company had earlier said that the shipment will arrive on 10 July.

Adam Azim, Managing Director of STO told Sun Online that the price of onion and potato from STO will not increase above MVR 10 per kilogram and that the company will not lift the price of egg above MVR 1.25 during Ramadan.

The new shipment includes 20,000 cartons of eggs, 20,000 sacks of onions and 5,000 sacks of potatoes. STO sells onions and potatoes for a wholesale price of MVR 225 and a carton of eggs for MVR 250.

The new shipment will be sold without restriction, Adam Azim said earlier. STO has stopped the wholesale of eggs due to a shortage in supply.

The company has promised to maintain a steady supply and to sell the products without restrictions during Ramadan.
