Man arrested for threatening magistrate

An elderly man has been arrested for threatening and attempting to assault a magistrate of an island court.

Police said that the 68-year-old man was taken into custody this afternoon, for threatening, using offensive language, and attempting to assault the magistrate as he left a mosque on 29 June.

The suspect was unhappy with the court for issuing a search warrant for his home after he was suspected of performing black magic, said the police.

Police said that he has been given a detention period of five days at a location determined by the Ministry of Home Affairs, by the Magistrate Court.

The case is under police investigation.
