Ministry of Environment and Energy has said that the project to install a 119 kW solar energy system in Raa Ungoofaaru has been implemented, and the work has been ongoing since 21 June.
The ministry said in a statement that under this project, solar panels will be installed at the school, the sewerage plant, and the power station in the island, and that the system would save approximately 3,600 litres of diesel per month.
The ministry said that solar energy systems will be installed in two islands under the “Support for the Climate Neutrality Strategy of the Maldives” project, carried out in collaboration with the government of Germany.
The installation of the solar energy system in Ungoofaaru, undertaken by a German company, is estimated to be completed in August.
