The case of approval of Vice President and fourteen Ministers of President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s government has been sent to the Parliamentary Government Accountability Committee.
In today’s parliament session, President Dr Mohamed Waheed’s letter requesting for the approval of the Vice President and Ministers was presented, following which Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim who chaired today’s session said that the case was sent to Parliamentary Government Accountability Committee for investigation, as obligated by the Parliament Act.
The fourteen ministers in need of parliamentary approval are Home Minister Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim, Attorney General Aishath Azima Shakoor, Health and Family Minister Dr. Ahmed Jamsheed, Education Minister Dr. Asim Mohamed, Economic Minister Ahmed Mohamed (Andey), Transport and Communication Minister Dr. Ahmed Shamheed, Human Resources, Youth and Sports Minister Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Ahmed Adheeb, Islamic Affairs Minister Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Housing and Environment Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Foreign Minister Dr. Abdul Samad Abdulla, Finance Minister Abdulla Jihad, and Fisheries and Agriculture Minister Ahmed Shafeeu.
In today’s parliament session, MPs debated on the restructuring of government by President Dr Mohamed Waheed which includes changing names of Ministry of Health and Family to Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Housing and Environment to Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure; and also the creation of Ministry of Gender, Family and Human Rights and Ministry of Environment and Energy.
