No approval for Vice President and Ministers: MDP

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Parliamentary Group has decided not to grant approval for the Vice President and cabinet ministers of President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s government.

Member of MDP Parliamentary Group and Party Spokesperson International Affairs Hamid Abdul Gafoor said that this decision had been made some time ago by MDP National Majlis, and the Parliamentary Group has decided to support their decision and not grant approval.

“This is not something MDP decided today. We had decided that the current government came into power by conducting a coup. Ever since they tore apart the former executive through a coup, we have decided not to support anything proposed by this government, so we can’t grant approval, can we?” Hamid said. “We have announced our stand on this before - in responding to the presidential address, and also in granting approval.”

Parliamentary approval for Vice President and fourteen members of the cabinet has been included in the agenda of the Parliament session tomorrow.
