Expatriate nurses working in Hithadhoo Regional Hospital mugged by thugs

Some expatriate nurses working in Hithadhoo Regional Hospital in Addu City have been mugged by some thugs last night.

Speaking to Sun, Noorullah Saeed, Managing Director of Southern Health Services Corporation (SHSC) which is responsible for the management of Hithadhoo Regional Hospital, said today that 5 lady nurses were on their way on foot to hospital for duty, around 11:15 pm, when thugs assaulted them, causing minor leg-injury to one of the nurses.

“One of the nurses sustained minor injuries. We believe that she started running with fear and then tripped and fell and thereby injured her leg. According to reports we have received, the thugs were on drugs, and the attack was not a calculated one on those nurses”, Noorullah said.

Noorullah said that those nurses who had to experience the incident were psychologically disturbed, and he said that he had met with them and given them assurances about their security in the future.

“I have met with them and assured them that any measures for their security that we can take would be immediately taken. If such incidents keep on repeating, it would be extremely difficult to get nurses from abroad”, Noorullah said.

The case has already been reported to the police. Police Media Cordinator, Sub-Inspector Ahmed Shiyam said today that a case of assaulting nurses in Hithadhoo had been filed, and that the police were already conducting investigations in to the matter.
