Parliament Speaker sworn in as JSC member

Newly elected Speaker of the Parliament Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed has been sworn in as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

President Yameen presented the letter of appointment to Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed this morning, at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.

Before the presentation of the letter of appointment, Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed took the oath of membership of JSC. The oath was administered by the Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain.

JSC, the primary judicial oversight body of the state, is comprised of the Speaker of the Parliament, a MP presenting parliament, President of the Civil Service Commission, Attorney General, a judge from a superior court, a judge from High Court, a judge from Supreme Court, a lawyer from the public and a general member from the public.

Fuvahmulah-South MP Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed was elected Speaker of the Parliament with 43 votes in favour during the first sitting of the first session of the parliament held on Wednesday, 28 May.
